Bernard Katompa

NON-EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

Bernard Katompa is a seasoned business leader with a proven track record of making things happen. Currently a businessman and strategic leader, Bernard is committed to contributing to the development of the African continent. Apart from being a Non Executive Director of various mining companies, he also lectures and consults with large international financial institutions to bring foreign direct investments into Africa.

He spent five years as the founder and first Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Africa, a financial institution he started from scratch on behalf of the Liberty/Standard Bank Group. He established Liberty/Stanlib’s presence in 16 African countries, providing insurance, wealth products, and asset management services.

Bernard is a professional accountant and mining expert. He significantly contributed to the creation of BHP Billiton, the world’s largest mining company, and held senior executive roles in finance and operations. He has managed mining operations across Africa, North America, Latin America, Europe, and Australasia, turning loss-making entities into profitable businesses.

Bernard holds an array of degrees including an MCom, Hons BCom, BCom, BSc, CPA, and AMP from Harvard Business School.
